Financial Awards

Students are at the heart of Yukon College and are an integral part of Yukon’s future. Our Financial Awards program can help you reach your educational goals. Yukon College and our generous donors understand the value of an education, so we supply a variety of awards to help you support your educational and living costs.

Awards can be based on academic or personal achievement, or financial need, along with other specialized criteria. All applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.0.

Whether you are applying for one or many awards, you need to fill out the following two documents only once:

  1. Student Financial Award Application
  2. Student Financial Award Application Waiver

Each award has additional application requirements and additional documents you need to submit. For instance, some require a Budget Sheet and some require a letter or essay. Please read the information carefully, and if you have any questions feel free to contact the Student Services Centre at 867.668.8720.

Janet and Pierre Berton Bursary: $400


The Bennet Family Foundation would like to make a $400 bursary available to a student with demonstrated financial need in Pierre Berton’s name.

Pierre Berton was a chancellor at Yukon College from 1989 to 1993. He was born in Whitehorse, Yukon in 1920. Pierre was the son of a gold-seeker and worked in the Klondike mining camps during his university years. He went on to become an editor and columnist at newspapers and magazines, a television personality and an author. Pierre is now among Canada's most well-known authors with 50 published books, many of which are considered Canadian classics. He is a Companion of the Order of Canada and was inducted into Canada's Hall of Fame in 1998. Pierre passed away in 2004 in Toronto, Ontario after publishing his last book entitled, Pioneers of the North, which was a collection of biographical sketches on five of Canada's northern explorers.

To apply, you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Be registered full-time at Yukon College
  • Have resided in the Yukon for at least two years as of the date of award application
  • Demonstrate financial need
