Financial Awards

Students are at the heart of Yukon College and are an integral part of Yukon’s future. Our Financial Awards program can help you reach your educational goals. Yukon College and our generous donors understand the value of an education, so we supply a variety of awards to help you support your educational and living costs.

Awards can be based on academic or personal achievement, or financial need, along with other specialized criteria. All applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.0.

How to apply

Whether you are applying for one or many awards, you need to fill out the following two documents only once:

  1. Student Financial Award Application
  2. Student Financial Award Application Waiver

Each award has additional application requirements and additional documents you need to submit. For instance, some require a Budget Sheet and some require a letter or essay. Please read the information carefully, and if you have any questions feel free to contact the Student Services Centre at 867.668.8720.

Hugh and Debora Kitchen Aviation Management Bursary: $500
Application Deadline: Friday, September 29, 2017

Hugh and Debra Kitchen are long-time Yukon residents, business owners and community volunteers who wish to make a $500 bursary available annually to students wishing to pursue a career in northern aviation.

For the Kitchen’s, aviation has been both a passion and a career. Hugh jumped at the opportunity to earn his pilot’s license as a young man working with White Pass, eventually becoming a partner with local airline Alkan Air. While no longer engaged in day-to-day operations of the airline, Hugh continues to be an avid pilot and community volunteer.

To apply, you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Be registered full-time in Yukon College’s Aviation Management Diploma program
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Write a 200 word letter outlining why you have chosen aviation as a career, including how this will support your goal to live and work in the North

Documents you need to submit:

NOTE: First preference to a student from a Yukon community outside of Whitehorse. Second preference will be given according to the following order: 1) Yukon students, 2) Northern students (those whose permanent address is above 50 degrees latitude), including residents of the Northwest Territories, Nunavut as well as northern British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador and 3) Students from elsewhere.
