Boat Operator Accredited Training

Need to get your Pleasure Craft Operator Card? Here are the two options available to you. One is for new boaters; the other for experienced boaters.

BOAT 001: Boat Operator Accredited Training (B.O.A.T.)

The Lifesaving Society’s Boat Operator Accredited Training (BOAT) program is accredited by Transport Canada. The BOAT course teaches you the knowledge you need to earn the Pleasure Craft Operator Card. Pleasure Craft Operator certification cards are issued to those who pass the written examination.

BOAT 002: Boat Operator Accredited Training (B.O.A.T.) Home Study and Exam-only Option

If you’re an experienced boater, you can study on your own and take the test when you’re ready. Our BOAT Study Guide will bring you up to speed. It contains all the "must knows" Transport Canada requires to pass the test for your Pleasure Craft Operator Card. Manual may be purchased from the YC Bookstore.

Not that we want to brag but…

Yukon College (YC) has been recognized for teaching a record breaking number of students in 2010. The Lifesaving Society of BC has announced that Yukon College provided Boat Operator Accredited Training (BOAT) to the most people out of any facility in BC and Yukon combined.

Yukon College is proud to be acknowledged during the 100th year anniversary of the Lifesaving Society, for its dedication to training Yukoners. “In 2010, a total of 443 people attended the BOAT program and that is significant considering our small northern population” said Dan Anton, chair, School of Continuing Education and Training. The community in second place was Cranbrook, BC and they certified 85 people. “Yukon College is committed to meeting the training needs of northerners and this award illustrates we are succeeding”, said Anton.

Yukon College is currently taking registrations for the Lifesaving Society BOAT courses that are offered throughout the month of June. The public can register for the BOAT instructor led course and test, or home study and then write the test. The BOAT program is accredited by Transport Canada and this course teaches what is required to earn the Pleasure Craft Operator certification card, which is now required by all boat operators in Yukon.
