Moccasin Update

As the days start to slowly get longer my sewing classes are coming to an end.
Most of the students have finished their sewing, and the other sewing classes that I teach are finishing up as well.Sewing has always been a winter activity for me; very rarely do I spend time in the summer sewing.I think that’s because our summers are so short and there are so many wonderful festivals to participate in.
The class’s beadwork was very diverse, ranging from bear paws to beaded flowers.

These are home tanned slippers with glass beads. This is a bear paw pattern.

These are home tanned moose hide with cut glass beads (the pink beads have sharp edges, rather than rounded ones like the yellow beads). This is a fireweed flower pattern.

This is a better picture of the fireweed beading pattern, and also showcases the completed moccasin with the beaver fur attached.

These are home tanned slippers with glass beads. This is a star flower pattern.

This is a better picture of the star flower beading pattern and the completed moccasins.

Last but not least, these are home tanned moose hide moccasins with beaver fur trim and round glass beads in a flower pattern.
I am always very impressed by how much work students put into their moccasins. These are not easy to make. It takes a certain amount of dedication to complete the amount of finicky sewing required to put these together and that doesn’t even begin to describe the amount of hours put into the beadwork.
Congratulations on some amazing end projects and beautiful work.
