Strategic Planning Overview  Strategic planning means anticipating the needs of an organization in the context of a changing environment. For Yukon College, this means that strategic planning will help the organization adapt to the changing needs of students, staff, faculty, industry, governments, and Yukon communities. Strategic planning means anticipating what may happen, both the opportunities and the challenges. By carrying out this planning process, Yukon College will ensure that it remains an excellent choice for Yukoners.  The environment external to Yukon College is changing, and the College needs to grow along with the Yukoners it was built to serve. Through the strategic planning process, Yukon College will be responding to the demands of a changing world. The Board of Governors expects the process to result in tangible, relevant, and meaningful goals with measurable outcomes.

A strategic plan is developed within a planning cycle, and sets the direction for a specified period of time, such as five years. The strategic plan sets out measurable goals by which an organization can chart its progress. Continuous monitoring and evaluation throughout the cycle will ensure that Yukon College knows when goals are being met.  Effective strategic planning demands that Yukon College develop an understanding of the forces shaping its environments by engaging the collective efforts and interpretive capabilities of stakeholders and organizational representatives.
